Here's a recipe for making chicken shawarma at home:
Ingredients:
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs
1/4 cup plain yogurt
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon ground paprika
1 tablespoon ground turmeric
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Pita bread or wraps, for serving
Toppings (such as lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, tahini sauce, or garlic sauce), for serving
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper.
2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
5. Bake the chicken in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly charred.
6. Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice the chicken into thin strips.
7. To serve, warm the pita bread or wraps. Place some chicken strips in the center of each pita or wrap, add your desired toppings, and roll it up.
8. Serve the chicken shawarma immediately, with additional toppings and sauces on the side. Enjoy!
